Konferencja organizowana jest w ramach projektu „Redukcja negatywnego wpływu wycieków paliwa z wraku tankowca Franken” finansowanego przez Baltic Sea Conservation Foundation (baltcf).

Celem konferencji jest zwrócenie uwagi na problem paliwa zalegającego na wrakach w Bałtyku, zarówno na przykładzie wraku T/S Franken, jak i innych wraków klasyfikowanych jako potencjalnie niebezpieczne dla środowiska.
W czasie konferencji omówione zostaną m.in. negatywne skutki wycieków paliwa, skala problemu, stosowane metody oceny ryzyka, ramy prawne dotyczące podejmowania operacji na wrakach oraz rodzaje dostępnych technologii oczyszczania wraków.
Ponadto w czasie konferencji omówiony zostanie przypadek wraku T/S FRANKEN bazując na wynikach ekspedycji badawczej przeprowadzonej w ramach projektu w dniach 23-28 kwietnia 2018 roku, której celem było zgromadzenie możliwie jak największej ilości zdjęć, filmów oraz wszelkich informacji o wraku w celu stworzenia spójnego, technicznego opisu aktualnego stanu obiektu.

W następstwie konferencji, w ramach realizowanego projektu stworzona zostanie także grupa ekspercka w celu opracowania Ogólne Metodologii Oczyszczania Wraków na Bałtyku. International Baltic Shipwrecks Conference

The conference was organized as part of the project "Reduction of the negative impact of oil spills from the Franken shipwreck" financed by the Baltic Sea Conservation Foundation (baltcf).

The aim of the conference is to draw attention to the problem of fuel still stored on shipwrecks in the Baltic Sea, both based on the example of the T/S Franken shipwreck, as well as other wrecks classified as potentially dangerous to the environment. The conference will discuss, among others, the negative effects of oil spills, the scale of the problem in the Baltic and worldwide, the risk assessment methods, the legal framework in regards to undertaking operations on wrecks, and the available salvage technologies used for cleaning operations.
In addition, during the conference the case of the T/S FRANKEN shipwreck will be discussed based on the results of the research expedition carried out as part of the project on April 23-28, 2018, the aim of which was to collect as many photos, videos and general information about the wreck as possible in order to create a coherent technical description of the current state of the object.

Following the conference, as part of the project, an expert group will be established to develop a General Methodology on cleaning shipwrecks from oil and how to step-by-step solve the problem of potential oil and fuel spills from other shipwrecks located in the Baltic.
